by the Official Visitors and the Inspector pre 1905 Transfer of females to Sunbury from Ballarat took place 1879. First visit by the inspector 17-2-1880. Excerpts from the transcripts: 11-10-1881 "No steps have been taken to improve the water supply which is very unsatisfactory." 7-12-1881 "No action to improve the water supply............matter is vital." 18-5-1882 "Mornings are very cold. The baths are rather severe for the aged and would suggest that means should be got to give them that require it a warm one." 7-2-1884 "........to consider the question of water supply. 7-2-1884 "Noticed a large quantity of bread and butter after the meal for the tea was laid and informed that what I allude to was cut up for the morning breakfast.
